Chaaarge!

Collage 1

I've been slowly assembling a collage above my office desk for the past two years. At first it was just stuff I liked, needed to remember or had an interest in being hung semi-consciously on the wall. Eventually it became a conscious thing, adding documents and bits of stuff at random. It seems to me now that it documents parts of my life these past couple of years in ways I would never have thought of consciously.

I like the collage as an art form, and I also think of the collage as a metaphor for what I'm doing on this blog: assembling bits and pieces of stuff that both document and participate in the formation of my mental space. If my mind is a room, this blog is the collage on the wall, and you lot come in and scribble your own notes on it. That's actually what I really like the most about it.

Today, the collage came off the wall and I feel very strange about it. I made a photoset of it on Flickr as a sort of documentation.

Oh, and just as an extra little memento mori-ish kinda tempus fugit kinda all-things-must-pass-kinda thing, it's now past midnight and that means I'm 26 years old. Hurrah!

Coincidentally, I once heard that the word hurrah is a Turkish war cry from around the time of the crusades which got caught up in Prussian culture and thus further into Scandinavian and Anglo-saxic languages. I like the idea of yelling hurrah as actually meaning "CHAAAARGE!" By Jove, I shall make it my motto for this year.

I dag er det Martins fødselsdag
    Charge, charge, charge!
Han sikkert sig en gave får,
som han har ønsket sig i år,
med dejlig chokolade og kager til.

Og når han hjem fra skole går,
    Charge, charge, charge!
så skal han hjem og holde fest,
og hvem, der kommer med som gæst,
får dejlig chokolade og kager til,

Til slut vi råber højt i kor:
    Charge, charge, charge!
    Gid Martin længe leve må
    og sine ønsker opfyldt få
med dejlig chokolade og kager til.

    Tillykke!

  4. Hm, apropos bloggen som et slags rum man går ind i, før nytår drømte jeg *rent faktisk* følgende drøm: Jeg arbejder i hjemmeplejen, jeg går rundt i en lejlighed som ligger åben ind til en anden lejlighed. Her bor Mikkel og Sara. Hun krammer mig overstrømmende, jeg er lidt utryg ved situationen -- Ha ha, funny:) Now, get out of my head, Shady!

  9. Mikkel: you're so s-c-a-r-y, you need to be defictionalized. I get you with my defictionalization spray soon.

But besides that, I think the roomliness that I associated the Shady-blog with was kinda interesting. That which my point was.

  11. What's your problem? Hearing authors? I don't have a master's degree in comp.lit just yet, so I'm not strictly qualified.

  15. Since you refuse to write a new post I feel obliged to point out that the best 3 things about your collage are:

    a) The chess picture (which I drew),

    b) the full powers warrant (which I wrote) and

    c) the overall DISCIPLINE theme (which you copied from the wall of my old rathole of an office down by the docks).

  18. Mikkel: Is THAT where I got that idea from? I was in Berlin this summer, and I started writing bigger and bigger notes on these small pieces of paper to feel like I was going somewhere (using more and more paper = progress). Eventually I was down to one word per paper, and suddenly I got the idea of hanging a bunch of giant letters on the wall, spelling DISCIPLINE, because that's what I needed. I didn't know that it came from somewhere. I'm so unoriginal. Sigh.

Sara: I left my camera dock in Bergen. No pictures, no batteries, no nothing. Until next week, at least. Also, things are a bit crazy, hence the lack of posting.
