"in other words, please fuck off and die"

On behalf of President Bush, thank you for your correspondence. We appreciate hearing your views and welcome your suggestions. Due to the large volume of e-mail received, the White House is unable to respond to every message, and therefore this response is an autoreply.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

If you make your criticism subtle and say you're an American student, you can get a pretty machine-autographed picture. It's compensation for having to repay the war debt through tax and loss of social security. Sadly I don't think the content of your email would quite fit the parameters.

I may be a cynic but I thought that ‘correspondence’ implied a dialogue or at least communication. The understood usage in English of the ‘co-’ prefix is to imply the presence or operation of more than one thing or person (it’s from the Latin ‘com’ for together). Ironic that they use it to describe your writing to the President. By reacting the way they have they have denied your email the status of correspondence. They aren’t ‘saying fuck off’. They aren’t even saying ‘die’. They aren’t saying anything at all because they’re not listening to you.

Well, for once I think that the White House might be telling the truth when stating they get a gazillion mails a day. Who'd expect a personal answer?
